There was a time I would have thought that '71 bird was ugly, but like the NR I find myself admiring its ugliness now. That big hulking coupe looks mean to me now, as opposed to just big and unwieldy. Especially in black. Maybe it's because I can recognize similarities in the following year's Mercury Cougar lines in it as well. I like it...

I had a black '97 until recently, that was the last year before the retro Tbird.  4.6L, IRS.  It got 20 mpg at around 80 mph on L.A.-Fla cruise w/back seat removed and 10 basses stuck in it.  Good handling big coupe...why the hell can't they build a Mustang w/IRS?  I almost totaled an '06 rental convertible when the rear end got squirrely on damp pavement.

I still have my '97 with the 4.6. They offered me a grand on trade-in when I bought my Mustang 2-1/2 years ago. I decided to keep it, and it's still going strong. Really great car. That black '71 is wicked!

I don't mind the live axle on the Mustang. It still out handles the new Camaro and destroys the Challenger. You just HAVE to lower it! Best mod I did.

My Dad had a Black '72 !  I to am starting to like the 70's Thunderbird's. I really like the blunt nose '67-'69
