And it sounded HUGE! I ran straight from my BDDI into the desk. Such a firm fundamental note, even with stainless steel strings! I was really suprised on playback how fat it sounded. I'm recording the rest of the album with it, without a doubt.   ;D

I would post soundclips, but we're being top secret about the recording until it's finished.

You aint kiddin! Now I'm thinking about sanding the neck down a bit, that Epi neck is huge! If I can pull that off, I may just sell the rest of my basses off all together lol.

Adam,

I'll be making a F****rBird from an Epi and a Jazz neck, ( just pulling the parts together to start the project) ever think about trying that?

Would that work? I think the scale is the same, but what about the neck pocket size and yadda yadda. I like the headstock and the profile of the neck, its just a little too chunky for my small sausage hands.

It's going to be *alittle* work, the neck pocket will need to be re-routed slightly deeper. Not too much work, I may do it myself. My hands are a bit on the smallish side as well, that is actually at least part of my rational for doing this in the first place, J necks are far more comfy for me than an Epi 'Bird.
I figure if I screw it up somebody here will know either how to fix it, or want to buy the wreckage - So it's kind of a win - win.... ;)

I take it the neck profile on a Gibson Tbird is thinner? I've never played one lol.

Post '88 Gibson 'Birds have a very small neck, about 1 1/2" at the the nut. Very comfy for my small hands.

Yeah, I love jazz bass necks, they are perfect IMO. The good thing is, I have plenty of flat black paint to finish the neck after I sand it down a bit. I don't think I'll get it down to a jazz profile, but it is a bit too large for me right now.

Either way, it sounds great in a mix!

Yeah not to mention fragile, we repaired our share of snapped off T-bird headstocks at Knooren Handcrafted...

A scarf joint on a jazz profile neck? I'm really not suprised you fixed a lot. That's not a lot of surface area lol.

My '76er has a very narrow Jazz-like neck too. Is a post 88er even thinner?

Mine hasn't gt a neck break... ...yet! Knock on wood. Hope I never have to visit you at Knooren, Blazer;) And I used to transport it without a case until I found a 70s case somewhere from someone (long story.)

After playing the Bird a long time it was very hard getting used at the cricketbat neck of my 50s P reissue.

I like my girls chunky, not my bass necks.  ;D :D

Chris, I thought you know "modern" post '88 production necks are completely different than 76's....much smaller!........very comfy for my girlie hands.
