Butch Ammons of Bayou Cables built this one and I bought it from Tom Appel from bassguitarstrings.us.  Arrived yesterday, and I took it to rehearsal last night with my power trio.  The Dark Star cuts through so nicely that I'll be playing it at our gig tonight.  It's a P bass on steroids.

Nice looking bass! I need to do a Dark Star P. I've only ever played one bass with a DS, but I remember thinking there were some useful tones there. I'm looking forward to a full review.

That looks very right with the DS for some reason. If I was asked if that would look good without seeing yours Mark I would probably have said no. I would love to hear it.

I would love to hear it.

Our gig tonight is being filmed, so if the audio is decent enough I'll make sure some footage gets up onto YouTube

Congrats, I'm sure the DS will sit nicely in the mix. Very expressive pickup, love them!

Looks nice!  I've got a Dark Star waiting for a home.  I'm still debating what to do with it, but I figure I'll do one more project bass and then be satisfied for a while.

Last I heard of Butch he owed a lot people money & stopped answering people?

Is he back in business?

Made some darn fine cables.

A tracker bass is always a safe bet.  (I am not crazy...that is not a real j bazz.... signature)  Overall a good pickup.  maybe a little overhyped but I like it.  Great deep tone.  This is a really bright sounding bass and the DS tamed the beast in it...  Really strong pup.  Will blow speakers if you really dig in.  I would recommend flats with it,  nothing too floppy.

 Been there, I always say that to myself, but before I've finished a project bass, I'm lucky enough to have terrific idea's for three more.

I bought cables from him 2 weeks ago, no problem at all.  As for not answering people, he's still active on BABP so is certainly readily accessible.

Oh, and here's a recording taken straight off the desk at our blues power trio gig last night.  I was really happy with how the Dark Star sounded.
