It didn't have any effect either way on a Lace Alumitone Bassbar I tried it on.  Haven't wired up the Bricebird so don't know.  Don't think so.

Good idea!

Maybe with chrome tape it could look even more convincing?

Sure would if still is available  Stuff I used is basically aluminum foil on a mylar adhesive backing.  It's used for A/C duct joints and has no insulation.  Made by Nashua and sold at Lowe's.  A roll with enough tape to do 10 complete basses including fretboards is less than $10.  Of course your song selection might be limited after that.

Yes looks like it might be.
Though it doesn't mention wether it's polepieces or a blade.

johnbob -my artec pups showed up yesterday.   12.85 and 12.65ohm on the scale.  did a check and they are blades not pole peices.  don't know if the magnets are alnico but other than that the spec's are pretty much the same as the bachbirds..

I got 12.88 and 12.74 from my Brice Bird Artecs.  I believe they are single coil, only 2 leads.

12.88 (neck, grey outer sheath) has red hot. 12.74 (bridge, black sheath) has white hot.

How can you tell if they are blade or pole?

Basvarken

You can feel it when you slide a nail over the top.
If the magnetic pull is even it's a blade. If it's pull stop pull etc it's pole pieces.

i have a green filmy thing i got from emg years ago with metal shaving floating in oil in it that reflect the magnets underneath  it.  works great for figuring out pole spacing etc.   These artecs are definately a blade.

these artecs are 4 wires plus a ground wire.  is that the same setup as the bach's?.

I had a feeling the Ebay ones were actually blades. They have other Artec pickups on Ebay that have poles and look more like Music Man pickups and I had a feeling that they just assumed that these were configured the same way. I don't need it now anyway because I just bought a pickup off of TBird1958 that he removed from his Bachbird. I plan on covering the pickups with the greatdealz NOS chrome covers I got but I am still wondering if I should try to remove the plastic covers from the pickups or just file the corners on the original cover like Rob did. I would love to remove the plastic covers and be able to use the actual mounting holes from the NOS covers but I have never done anything like that before and I don't know anything about pickups, etc. but I am usually pretty good at rigging things up in general. I would hate to ruin the pickups by trying it though, obviously.

Thanks, used the nail method, blades on mine.

jumbodbassman

not sure how tough removing the plastic cover would be but they might  sound better if you get that done.  you can get the pickups a little closed which should give it some girth....
