Just finished putting together this hybrid bass.

The parts:

'75 Mustang bass neck
Hipshot Ultralite tuners
'78 Musicmaster body with badly flaking finish, routed for a split coil pickup and drilled for a Mustang pickguard
70's Musicmaster 2-saddle bridge
80's MIA Bullet bass pickup and wiring harness
Antique Pearl pickguard from Pickguardian
Control plate from a '75 Mustang

Interesting combination there. I'm surprised you didn't go for an original Musicmaster pickup.

I already have three Musicmasters, and the headstock decal says Mustang... And I had a spare split coil pickup. So basically I used what I had and bought as little as possible.

Now thats what I call a stressed body  ;)

be careful Ilan, the relic guys will be around wanting to know your secrets  ;)

I bought the body this way, dirt cheap, with a psychedelic refin in mind. I think it's water damage. Now I got used to the look. But haven't neglected the idea of a future refin, something like this:

The guy who painted that SG released a book about his life a year ago. Very interesting! In Dutch only, unfortunately. It's about his art group the Fool and working with Cream, The Beatles, the Apple Store... I actually met him! Great guy! Very strange to shake hands of a guy who painted one of the most famous guitars ever.

But I like the aged look of the Fender! Nice job!

Do you think he still does guitar artwork? I'd be thrilled to have him paint my bass.

I still have this old EB3, but I don't had the guts to ask him... I can try to get in contact? He has a website. I mailed him once and he had read my mail... So you can try that too!

Interesting. A friend of mine is waiting to get her Musicmaster back with its new Competition Mustang paint job in some kind of teal with the racing stripe. Ocean Turquoise? Don't know my Fender colors that well, sorry. I think she went with a matching headstock too. Its got a Badass and a Duncan '51 P-Bass pup.

Dang, Ilan's bass looks like a Hurricane Katrina relic....
