Some technical Qs.

- The holes for the tuners seem to be very small. Smaller than my EB3, SG RI and Epi EB0-donor bass. Is this size common? Which tuners should I get?

- It has two holes with metal ferrules for the bridge. Any duggestions?

Thanks!

On my Eb-0 project bass the holes were small enough to use Sperzel light weight locking bass tuners

They make bass tuners. It's cool because they also make them in crazy colors you can mix and match.

I was surprised as they work really well. I like them a lot. You pull the tuner out a bit and tune your bass, then push it back in to lock the string. It works pretty well. My E string fit no problem

If they will fit you can green or orange anodized tuners, as well as chrome, satin (mine) or what ever you can think up!

Orange & black

Gold, Black & Orange

They even make a light weight drop D tuner

Welcome to vintage Gibson basses.  Your tuner holes seem small compared to a modern (aka Fender) bass tuner, but were the standard size used on Gibsons, and several other basses.  You will find that there are options but a vintage set will set you back a bit and newer ones will not look vintage and cost you a bit as well.  There are several Japanese tuners that will fit the hole, but probably not line up with the back of the headstock unless your bass is from around 1967 when a number of EB0s used the Japanese tuners found on Kalamazoo basses.  I believe the modern PING branded bass tuners are those type, which will fit that hole.
Model One and Schallers?  Ish.

Hole fitting seems to be all the rage these days here, sigh!

Chris, shall I ohrfeigen Herr EB2 for his smug little introduction "Welcome to vintage Gibson basses."? The beast!  :D

Yeah, just ignore my EB3 and Thunderbird!

ramone57

Uwe, you need a set of orange & blue tuners to complete the look!

I almost always ignore Tbirds.  I only pay attention to EB3s if they were made before the Nixon administration.

It has two holes with metal ferrules for the bridge.
My suggestion is to mod a Kahler fixed bridge - my personal method.  Other than that, pay the ebay piper for the original type.  No easy answers for the old versions yet.

I like the kahler  myself.
Uwe you could get tuners to match your eyes. ;D
It takes a very deep-rooted opinion to survive unexpressed

A certain eastern european luthier -who shall remain nameless- is working on an EB2 bridge copy as we speak... ;)
If you have the patience to wait -let's say- a few months that may be a very good alternative.

I like the rectangular look of the Sperzels above. I think I go after them.

Would enlarging the holes be an option/possibility?

Barklessdog

it depends if there is enough room to mount them without the backs sticking out from the edge.

Now "hole enlargement" - just when I thought I had seen it all here ...
