the badass bridge!  i don't see the allure. people throw them on anything at the drop of a hat. i don't want my bass to have extra sustain, etc. on another forum a guy was talking about his new 1966 p bass. bone stock and very nice indeed. the next post was some clown saying ' all you need now is a badass bridge and some emgs'. i don't like to replace any stock item unless it is broken. maybe i have lower standards than everyone else or people just like to say badass. ;D

It's worth some dough even with the Badass desecration.

I like the Antiqua kinda burst. Is that original?

I like Flying V guitars with Bigsbies:)

Even on that forum where all the kids post you sometimes see sarcasm.

The allure of the Leo Quan & EMG combo has eluded me too.

I'm just finishing a resurrection project on a 76 Kramer... the PO "installed" a Badass and EMGs too oh yeah and the worst homemade pick guard you have ever seen  ???

Agreed ;D. If some stock piece really isn't  working right for me or is broken I will change it and go to something aftermarket. I have had basses I was going to swap out pickups and bridges and do some other stuff , but  given a little time , I learned to appreciate them for what they were and left them alone.
If I buy a bass and start swapping all it's components out, it's either because I wanted to buy a project or I just plain and simple bought the wrong bass.

Looks like an original Silverburst that's discolored over the years.

In the 80's I swapped a bridge for a Gotoh 201 but found out that it gave too much sustain. IMHO sustain is overrated in a bass. What is it good for? I like to palm mute anyway.

I guess it depends on what kind of music you're playing, but in 40 some years of playing bass , I have yet to be on a quest for more sustain ???
Like you, I would have a tendency to palm mute a whole lot more than I would to use sustain, and the sustain I get from the stock set up satisfies my needs just fine.

I can't wait to hear Uwe stop by and tell us how awful they sound stock...

I think he may have softened his opinion a little. I hear that creeping old age does that. Not that I would know.

n!k

This is one of the unreachable beauties I would dream to have. But truthfully, I would prefer a V bass already modified or beat up a bit, to justify replacing the pickups  :-X (not with EMGs mind you)

Even with EMGs it would sound better than stock, nuff said!

But they've always looked great. Prices seem to have gone down on them though over the years, perhaps proof that sound is not totally irrelevant even to collectors!
