I did notice the 60 cycle hum today when the darn thing would even tune when I stood directly before my Ampeg SVT! Before that I had noticed that it was noisy under some conditions, but never gave it much thought. Maybe the wiring is not quite alright I thought.

IIRC William of Ockham (sp.?) predated Star Trek by a few centuries.

I believe that Heinlein was also a proponent of Occam's (Ockham's) Razor in his stories.  And it's easy to think it was the source or inspiration for Conan Doyle's well-known Holmes quotation "When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth."
