Stolen Gear
« on: January 28, 2010, 12:29:49 PM »
I just found out that Chip Douglas' studio was broken into
(Chip was the bassist for The Turtles, produced The Monkees, Linda Ronstadt, and more).

Wish I'd heard about this sooner
but here's the info he sent me this morning-

Quote
The following Items were stolen from MT. VIEW STUDIO on 11/24/09 in Hawaiian Acres, Hawaii.
POLICE REPORT CASE NUMBER: C 09033885

1-   Gibson ES-175 “F hole style” electric guitar, sunburst finish, double
pickups, 4 control knobs.  A small decal of an airplane is on the top
near the single cutaway.   3” thick hollow body with no pick guard.

2-      Epiphone wide body double cutaway 4 string electric bass, sunburst finish,
with 2 large chrome pickups. Proof of ownership photos available.

3-     Taylor round hole, single cutaway acoustic guitar, with GOLD tuning pegs.

4-   Fender Jazz bass, black sunburst finish, an “Elektra” decal at the
bass of the neck on the back side.

5-   Fender speaker cabinet with separate head.

6-   Yamaha 1 piece bass amp.

7-   2 small home stereo type speakers.

8-   1 pair of JVC earphones (HAD-990)

9-    2 gold records awarded to “Chip Douglas” for Monkees albums

CALL:  “Chip” 808-896-0103  or POLICE:   808-935-3311

No serial numbers are available
(document guys!)
but note these distinguishing features-

The Epiphone has two pickups.
They come stock with one
and Chip installed the second.

The Taylor has GOLD tuners
instead of the stock silver.

The ES 175 had it's pick guard removed.

The Fender Jazz I recall playing.
This was Elektra's studio bass,
used for later Doors albums amongst others
and has the Elektra decal on the back.

Not much chance of pawning a gold record here,
so if you guys wouldn't mind keeping an eye out in your local area,
maybe it'll lead back to the thieves.

I'd really appreciate it
and I know Chip would too.

Thanks!

And in what city and state was the aforesaid crime committed?  I don't know if I'm 60 miles or 600 miles away...

It's in Hawaii, see the first line of the police report. Small print, you're excused.  ;)

Thanks guys!

I realise it's a long shot
but Chip's a great guy who remains both active and supportive in the local scene
so I want to help him out any way I can.

With the web,
well, you never know.

Oh, BTW-
Hawaii to Colorado?
Approximately 3,111 miles/5,329 km.
