Group...

I have an early 60's EB-3 nickel bridge that needs replating.
Yes, it's functional as it is right now, but was considering having it replated for cosmetic reasons.

In your opinion does anyone think this will heavily decrease its value?
It is going on a 1962 EB-3 bass that just had the headstock repaired...
I am trying to remain model year specific with the parts I am using but thought
since I was having this bass rebuilt it would be nice to have a re-nickeled bridge.

There is a place here in Metro Detroit that will do it for $60.00... does this seem like an average fee for something this size?

Thanks...

seems a bit high but the fact that you can get it done local would ease my mind a lot if it were me. i say go for it. for that price i would make sure they buff it extremely well though.

enjoy  ;D

That doesn't look all that bad to me I would leave it as is.

you might try soaking it in naptha for awhile and see if that doesn't clean it up a bit.  couldn't hurt and it'd be a lot cheaper than having it plated.

You might be able to grind on them a bit over that price.  I had stuff plated for cars years back, and the places I dealt with were always open to discussion.  Of course they probably won't budge as much for a small order, but still - no harm in trying!

I like it as-is too, but I can understand getting it plated if you're going for a mint-y restore.

The place I went to years ago , $40 I believe was the minimum.

Not many places do plating any more so $60 doesn't seem terrible to me.

Why replate it? It's meant to look like that on a vintage instrument, Scott is right.

Hey guys... thanks for the input.
Funny thing... the guy I bought it from had sent some other close up shots of the back and the top...
in the pictures it looked pretty rough; I guess it wasn't very photogenic.  ;D

Anyway... just got it in the mail today, and no need to replate it... it looks good!
...and I agree, it's a vintage part going onto a vintage instrument.

Thanks all!
