These are pics of the jig I used to rout the rabbet for the-larger :-\ binding. Followed by a couple of the well ventilated result.

Nice jig! It just gave me some ideas to improve my own jig, thanks!

Don't feel bad, I made a dozen or more errors on my scratch build.  I had to redo the neck pocket, add some pieces to the top, fix the bottom because it wasn't as square as I needed, I messed up the binding joint, and on and on.  But in the end, I learned so much and it turned out just fine.

I can't wait to see yours all finished.
I'm fixin' a hole where the rain gets in..........cuz I'm built for a kilt!

Thanks to all!
Dr. Bassman, that rickie bass is a beaut. The other guys at the shop showed me some pics of D'angelicos and such w/ 9-ply binding everywhere, guess it was there not just for decorative purposes
Still I look at those kerfs on my build grinning out at me and I cringe!

I would think that once you glue the top to the kerfs, all will be very strong and fine in the end.

Doc, now that you've hd some time to live with those Thunder'trons, how do you like them?
Nothing is what it seems but everthing is exactly what it is.

I love 'em.  This bass sounds great.  They are strong and well rounded in terms of tone.

It's a beauty Birdie!  Even for a 6 banger ;D

So, is there a back story?  We know you have a mentor - is this formal training?  A one off deal?

After looking up luthiery schools all over the US, I narrowed it down to a place in Sebastopol, CA. Called the guy, he said he would call back, and never did! So, I just muddled on, messing up stuff blindly. Then my wife, bless her, saw a tiny little add in the Austin Chronicle, Ed Schaefer Guitars, luthiery course etc. So here I am!! Had to pay, of course. And not regretted a single thing about it, never had to leave home and made a friend. What else could you want?

Took the tape off today. After some CA repairs on some areas of binding-notably in the cutaway- did a couple of hours of sanding/cleanup before setting the neck tomorrow. I'm feeling much better about how it looks now!!
