Hah, you thought it was gonna be a Gibson, didn't you!?!?!  :P

Actually, I snagged this one for a potential JE Fenderbird project and the case!  My 60's NR has a case now!

I saw that one!  Nice score.  I would have gotten it but I just recently bought an old Schecter USA made P Bass with original case.

drbassman

Yeah, I figured it was fine for the price and I do need a case.  And I might paint it red and put a Fender neck on it too!

Thats was a good score. I saw it on Ebay this morning. I sold mine for $460 shipped, so you did pretty good I'd say!

For the $ these are nice basses. Nice score Bill ! Heres my modded one, it now sports the tbird logo and has a chicken head knob in the middle control to split the pup coil. This bass rocks !

They had one of those at a local music store for $219 a year or so back. Wish I would have snagged it.

"My 60's NR has a case now!"

Errrrm, someone has to break it to you Bill  :-\, those Epi Non Rev TBird cases are a tad bit too short (the Epi headstock is shorter and and angles further backwards too) for a real Gibson Non Rev, the headstock will be under strain from the "north side" of the case. You will have to work with wedges to bulge the case out just a little. It will still close and the bulge will not be huge (though visible as a small gap). Only then will the Gibson Non Rev fit strainfree.

The only Epi cases I know of that fit the (real) Non Rev strainfree are the (huge) Explorer bass cases.

We've taken too much for granted ... and all the time it had grown ...

Oh beans!  Well, we'll just have to appreciate it for what it is........a nice little bass and potential project!  I like what Scott did with his.  I'm thinking of filling the j pup hole and doing a solid color refin, maybe adding a Fender neck, ala JE Fenderbird.  We'll see after it lands and how I'm feeling about it in a few weeks.  I do have a set of 60's TB pups coming from Seymour Duncan soon.  Opps, I forgot, those are for my 2003 TB rehab project.  I'll need another plan.......

I know it seems a bit daft to cover up the bridge pup route, why not just put a nice J replacement in there ? I really love one pup basses, the bridge pup gets in the way of what passes for my style.  :-\

Well, if I decide to refin it, the j pup route can be filled and go away.  I'm also toying with upgrading the pups if necessary and leaving it alone.  A Fender neck would still be cool, but I wouldn't mess with the current heel pocket so I could go back to the Epi neck I if wanted to.  Just some thoughts!

I don't think a Fender neck will fit, I think the heel of the Epi neck is narrower.

True, but with a router, I could make a baseball bat fit the Epi neck pocket, no?

Hey, this one turned out good!  I figured if I filled the j hole, I could use any pups I like and I like the LP humbucker style Bassbuckers from Fralin and sold by RS Guitars.

Big surprise....my other NRs fit in the case!  Perfectly, no problems at all.  Yeah baby!  Also, it's a pretty nice Epi bass. I'm starting to feel some twitching when I think about refinishing it.  Maybe I'll get over it later.

It plays and sounds pretty darn good!  In fact, I'd say it has the best tone of any Epi I've ever owned and I've had 5 or 6 over the last few years.  With some better pups, this thing could roar IMO!  Only one nick in the headstock.  The body is damage free.  Not bad at all!
