I'm sure the Hofner sounds fine for what it is. No mistaking that particular sound. That said, IMHO it doesn't fare well when compared to most others.

Would I knock a German product? The Höfner sounds great and one of a kind. In the comfort of your living room or in a club. When it comes to projecting a bass sound in an arena against modern day electric guitars, drums and state-of-the-art keyboards there are more audible/assertive alternatives. The lack of sustain does rob the bass of some "thereness".

But it's an iconic little instrument. That said, I lice Macca's more lively bass sound on something even as trivial as, say, Silly Love Songs better. And what's wrong with that ... I'd like to know?
We've taken too much for granted ... and all the time it had grown ...
From techno seeds we first planted ... evolved a mind of its own ...

Have to agree, it's hard to beat his sound on a RIC
