I wouldn't know. I don't do funk, period. Never listen to it, never play it.

I think Stingrays get a bad rap from all the treble freaks that played them in the 80's and beyond. John Deacon didn't sound like that, and Peter Gabriel's 'So' album has some great sounding bass lines (to me anyway). And early Cheap Trick? A vintage bird with a two band Stingray preamp. Tom Petersson's secret weapon!

MMs are used plenty in country and rock.

I like it. It's on clearance yet I don't remember seeing it in any stores.

MIK? At that list price I would think so. The several Korean Schecters I've played were all very well made, unfortunately they had active EMGs which is not my sound.

Are you sure they were Active pups Dave?  Schecter seem to have a habit of putting Passive Humbucker pups in their basses but running active tone controls. I checked in the localSchecter dealership shop recently before buying mine and I couldn't find any Active pup models there at all. They were either straight passive or Passive pup/Active tone.  I really like the sound of passive EMG Humbuckers's. Especially in Maghogany.

I have to say that does look like a bargain (and a better looking Punisher).

I am very impressed with the Schecter I picked up recently.

I think the EMG_HZ's are passive, but thru an active circuit? Anyone know for sure?

The EMG-HZ series is passive but Schecter runs them through a separate active preamp on this bass (and others).

The MIK Schecters I played several years ago had the internally active EMGs.

Freuds_Cat

You are right Andy, the Pups on this bass are HZ's and Passive. The 9v battery is only for the onboard pre tone settings.

I had a Spector with EMG HZs with an active circuit. I took the preamp out and wired the EMGs passive. Sounded great to me, though I think some people don't like them. If the Spector hadn't had a superfluous extra string I'd still have it.

WHAT?!?!?!  :o

Ya learn something new every day. I just saw CT last week. Petersson had an awesome Waterstone 12er with all kinds of rhinestones and stuff on the top. Nice and shiny! Sounded bad ass too.

Hmm...never heard that. I'm doubtful.

I could be remembering incorrectly but I'm pretty sure that's what Kevin Borden said a few years back when we were discussing TP at the old place. I've looked to see if anyone else has ever documented it but never found much. Maybe I'll look again.
