I've recently seen a 1965 Jazz Bass on Ebay that had the optional Maple fingerboard.  It sold for over 5K.  Maple board was an option from the time they introduced rosewood from what I've read.  It is hard to find Pre-CBS examples and the Jazz on Ebay is the earliest I'd seen.  The '65 had black dots.  I've seen ones from the late 60's that had black blocks on the maple board.  Then around 1970 or so they reintroduced the one piece necks.  These also had black blocks then went to the pearl blocks around '74.  Around 1980 they started making them with dots again on both rosewood board or one piece maple necks with binding on the neck.
