Well, I've installed win7 and it mostly works,  Unfortunately, to quote Madeline Kahn in Blazing Saddles, my audio is verflucchtt!  To be fair, aside from that it's working perfectly and seems to have preserved and transferred all files for all users perfectly.  I upgraded from a vista 64-bit system to Win7 64-bit.

I'll work on that thar audio thang.

BTW - anyone with an email address ending in .edu can get the win7 upgrade for $29.99 until January 3...it's for students, which I kinda sorta maybe am...but since I work at a university, my network admin sez go fer it.  Some of you may be qualified...   http://www.win741.com/

I plan to take advantage of that deal by getting Windows 7 for my Macbook Pro. Having grown up on Windows and not using mac up till September, I still prefer Windows.

I have Vista Business on my laptop, can't think of any reason I would want to upgrade. Besides, I would have to go to 7 Ultimate to get all the features I have now.

I don't know why, but I still lose my breath laughing so hard at this scene from Blazing Saddles.

One of the funniest scenes EVER put on film - and only Mel Brooks would have had the cojones to do it.

Blazing Saddles would never be allowed near a theater if it were a new release today. Too bad.

Makes you wonder what in the wide wide world o' sports is-a goin' on here.

Are you saying that the US has gone that far PC...?

Sticking with XP Pro for the forseable future, work LT and home machines... all the high-end commercial access/cctv/alarm companies steered well clear of Vista, in any format, and the UK's main access company (been on a course there all this week) is working on W7 but not expecting a release until spring...

I remember losing a soundcard after an upgrade some years back, when I discovered it was an SB not supported by ME... geez... what a pile that was...

I changed my main computer to Win 7 last week - had a couple of audio problems, but the first MS download fixed them.  Can't complain!

Oh yes, we're PC in the US. OK?

Depends if it's good PC or bad PC...

Is it just me or is Win 7 more like Mac OSX than ever?

I am completely PC-centric and can't even open a program on a Mac, so I dunno.  It's not very different from Vista as far as I can tell, but I had no problems with Vista other than Microsoft's constant nannyism that sometimes gets in the way.  I get very tried of clicking around security warnings when I know darn well what I want to do.

I've had no problems with Vista, I just disabled the UAC.

I own and use both PCs and Macs. For creative video and photo applications, the Mac just has the hardware and software I prefer to use. That being said, I use a PC for just about everything else. I have no complaints against XP (which I didn't start using until after the first service pack was released), and probably won't upgrade operating systems on the PCs until the time comes to buy a new one.

I just came across this today.

QuoteWe'll be honest -- before today, we had never heard of Simon Aldous, but it sure seems as if he's trying hard to get his name out there. Mr. Aldous, a group manager at Microsoft, recently sat down for a rather lengthy talk with PCR. Most of the back-and-forth revolved around receiving input from partners and other mildly boring topics, but one particular Q&A was pointed directly at the outfit's newest operating system. When asked if Windows 7 was "really a much more agile operating system," Simon made a deliberate decision to say the following:

"One of the things that people say an awful lot about the Apple Mac is that the OS is fantastic, that it's very graphical and easy to use. What we've tried to do with Windows 7 – whether it's traditional format or in a touch format – is create a Mac look and feel in terms of graphics."

Of course, he followed that up by slamming OS X's general stability, noting that Vista's core technology -- on which Win7 is built -- is "far more stable than the current Mac platform." We know we're opening up a giant can here, but... um, thoughts?
