I played one today at South Austin Music but did not plug it in. The fit and finish are great and the action was super. They had theirs for $399.
That's where I got mine, paid $349.
Truthfully, I dont see/feel that much difference in build quality between the new Dano and my Jerry Jones basses. One thing I like about the Dano is the "reliced" look, not damaged/worn-looking, just old-looking. Everything(finish, metal parts) has a dull finish to it. Looks very cool IMO.
The sound is even more snarly midrange than my JJs, it cuts thru live like you would not believe. I like the seperate volume and tone controls for each pickup, the knobs are a bit cheesy feeling but hey, it's a Dano. Bass is light and well-balanced. I can't really think of a negative thing to say about it.
