Hi, new here but must say seems like you all know your stuff, so my I ask for some help? My old amp quit on me and I need a new one. Found 2 in my price range but don't know anything about them. Can I please get your thoughts on them? 1st is a peavey bass mark viii series, its 350 watts @ 4 ohms. Its used. 2nd is the hartke 2500, 250 watts @ 4 ohms, its new. Have a 2x15" cabinet that I use. both are going for $250.00.  what are your thoughts? Oh ya, no gigs just home playing for now, still learning. Thanks for any feed back

Aussie Mark

If the cabinet is 4ohms, I'd pick the Peavey over the Hartke.  A little more power up the sleeve, plus you can't kill a Peavey with an axe.
Cheers

My vote is the same. Peavey.

I'd take the Peavey too.

And welcome aboard.

Peavey for me, they are indestructible and have nice tone.

Go with the Peavey. I have the one step down 250W/4 Ohms MKVI version and it's a great amp for the price. Built like a tank. I bought it new in 1992. Plus you can probably use it down to 2 Ohms if you like, in my case it delivers 400W in 2 Ohms and the MKVIII would probably be around 500W.

Basvarken

Peavey seems like a sensible choice.

But a 2 x 15 cab for use at home?
Your neighbours must be very tolerant people :o

I used to know a guy that used the Peavey VIII head. I always liked the sound he got out of it. I've never been a big Hartke fan either.

Never stopped me, Rob, and my neighbours weren't that tolerant...  :o  :o  :o

What are you (going to be) running through it other than your NR Epi, TBF...? (I'm a "Valve-Head", thru-and-thru, but Peavey do make very reliable kit...)

Peavey. I've found their watts to be "loud" and they take a beating.

I used a Mark VIII back in the 1990's and it is a great amp.  I'd go Peavey all the way!

Hey all, thanks for all the help! Went to go get it and its gone! any others you all recomened?
Basvarken, ya I got great neighbors, I play down in the basement though, and I've done quite abit to keep the sound in, plus its kinda noisey around here any way.
Kenny five-o, all I have is the nr epi, the goth tbird, reg. tbird,a squire p/j, peavey millineum, and a ibanez acoustic. don't play the peavey, don't like it, so will be playing everything but it when ever I get a new amp. Lol

If you are after a Peavey you could check out the Peavey T-max head. It has a tube/solid state preamp. I've heard good things about those as well. The new Hartke LH500's are supposed to be great (and sound nothing like older Hartke heads) and are only $350 new. You might want to try one of those if you have the extra $$$.

Are there any other brands that you are also interested in?
