I read recently that his manager kept him doped up. The manager recently died and they were trying to clean him up & get him back on track.

That manager (now deceased) was stealing a lot of the money too.

Fortunately, Johnny's rhythm guitarist and current manager Paul Nelson, with the help of a physician, helped him get detoxed and back into the groove. Nowadays Johnny Winter couldn't be busier! It's good to have real friends-- Paul Nelson is a real "Guitar Hero's Hero"!

That's some GOOD news folks!!!

He was so doped when I saw him he could barely sing. Just sat on a stool the whole night, but again, he could still play.

All I know is it looked like a canoe paddle ! I missed the Firebird.

Bill did the rep bring any Epi Ltd flying V basses ? I hear they are short scale.

Have they addressed the problems with the EPI 5 string t bird?

Because of some newer tunes I might be in the market for a 5 string.

Hasn't that Johnny Winter signature been out for a while? I saw one at my guitar shop and it was lovingly done, it felt player-worn as opposed to forcibly (w)re(ck)liced.

Nope, all he brought was the Triumph II and the fiver.  They did have the reverse V, coffin, 59 LP and flying V guitars.  Really cool stuff, but light on the basses.  I hung around for 45 minutes or so.  After the basses, I ran out of stuff to do!

Don't know about the problems with the Epi fiver?  What was it?

And yes, the Johnny Winter guitar had to be the best relic job I have ever seen.  I would have sworn it was over 40 years old.

Hey Scott,

 My local GC had an Epi V I got the chance to play it, indeed short scale with gold hardware. It was set up pretty nice and sounded ok too...................I really thought about buying it but reconsidered - I'd always rather play one of my 'Birds, I'm just too stuck on them  ;D

Yeah I'm stuck on the birds myself but there are so few worth buying that I can afford ! G.A.S. is a horrible thing and I have always wanted a V but I know I will never play it live. I have been pretty impressed with some of Epi's stuff, my white EB3 comes to mind so for $399 I just might but one...................................I bet it is way better than Gibson version, man we could not give those things away.

There was a problem with the B string output on the Epi Pro Bird V. I don't know whether it was the preamp or maybe the coils weren't centered in the covers. They were aware of it and IIRC had come up with a solution. I can't remember the details. Uwe?
