Welcome aboard ET...

There are two of us here that own "directly" built Peter Cook basses (as I now undersdtand it) - Eric owns a Firebird "Twin" and an "Axis", I own a "Thunderbird"... no one I know owns one of these although one of the crew is after one if the beastie came up cheaply enough - I would certainly like to own one...

This is an occasional thread that I started some time back and I have a permanant watch for them... it details pretty much all of them and any related instruments that have come up, and what they have sold for so if your enquiry is for a sales value the you will only be disapointed - from an insurance perspective, you have something that was not built in great quantities but could only be described as an obscuirty...

If it had been one of JAE's Fenderbirds, you best avenue would be to contact a high-end auction room, or maybe Hard Rock...

Finally... may I congratulate you on being a member of a very select band of players... use the bass, don't sell her and remember her heritage... She's part of British Rock history... I'm not a collector, I'm a player; my Peter Cook was built to be played...

Oh yes, nearly forgot... pics please... the general rule here is that if the pics don't appear theres nothing but virtual words on a virtual page... what would be nice is some sound clips with a review...

Hi to everyone.

I will get my brother to take some pics of the beast and i will then upload them. She is in need of a little tlc but nothing to major but well worth doing as she is around the 40 year old mark. They say life begins at 40 anyhow. It has a glued on neck which from what i have read suggests that its an early model.... :)

Thanks for all the info and help so far.

Nice to finally see one on here...

Last two that came up for sale went for £230 and £257 - they do not go for much... not seen one up for sale for a while...

Does this one have a "set" or "through" neck...?

Start from the beginning of this thread and you will pretty much find out all there is to know...

Headstock looks different to images I've seen - any chance of a close-up...?

This is crypt kicking but I put this thread up for PC instruments and have slipped in the odd six-string...

This is the first one of anything that has cropped up for some time - a sister to Eric's AXIS bass...

Again, as before...

Peter Cook built Mighty Mite custom Strat

Something of note here is that he built 200 instruments in this series - 100 Strats and 100 Precisions

Something else I've remembered is that he was commisioned for some time to set up all Gibsons that landed on these shores during this time period, iirc - just something for FE's notes...

Nice, but do I understand correctly that he just assembled this from Mighty Mite parts? If so, I can't see it being worth that much. No doubt the assembly was expert and Mighty Mite parts were always decent, but it's still an early 80s Korean parts guitar.

I don't remember anything specific about these, Dave ... did he manufacture the body or is this an MM part too ... ?
Tags are the only significant item here, and only to a very specialised collector ...
This is how often his items appear on the 'bay, that's it ...

Who were the UK Gibson distributors during the 80's ... ? Anyone know ...?

No idea. Describing it as a "Mighty Mite Peter Cook Rock One" sounds to me like it's put together a from Mighty Mite body and neck. If the pickups were the only Mighty Mite parts, why would you title the auction like that? Mighty Mite pickups aren't anything special.
