I now understand that this was the Beyonce vid Kayne preferred:

A pure (and rather formal) dance vid. I appreciate that the dance moves are good, especially some of the more ethnic/tribal looking ones they've put in, but I fail to see what's special about the video itself. Kanye perhaps just likes to see Beyoncé's calves, which aren't bad, but then again not strictly eligible for vote on "best video" either.

Well, in any case, this thread has now made me aware of Miss Swift and I've ordered her two CDs! Judging from youtube, Kayne has made her (even more) famous.

I have a pretty unpopular view on music videos in general. I think they suck. I think that music is an art form for the ears and and that a video image tends to be more of a distraction than an enhacement. Of course when your music sucks a good video image will try to entertain your eyes while your ears get bored. My favorite music video is "Video Killed The Radio Star" an ironic prophecy that videos would kill music. The irony is that it was such a success :P.
When Stevie Wonder started doing music videos, that was the last straw for me. He is freakin' blind! How much creative input did he have in putting together the visual piece?

I like scantily clad babes dancing suggestively as much as the next guy......but that really doesn't have much to do with good music.

I never even watch concert DVDs. I like live concerts, yes, but watching music on a screen distracts. I prefer a CD and no visual distraction.

Now and then I hear people complain about MTV hardly showing any videos anymore (not that I would ever notice). I think the reason is that enough viewers finally figured out these videos were actually commercials. Some are very creative, but the purpose was still to sell product, not to be creative. And that's what the VMA is about, giving awards for commercials. It's not about the quality of the music. I would never have noticed the existence of the awards if not for this flap.

Still, Taylor Swift seems like a nice girl who was genuinely honored to get the award. She deserved to give an acceptance speech without getting upstaged by this shitass.

I couldn't agree more. Did you see Kanye on the Leno show? I seriously think he has some type of learning/mental disability. He responded to things like a child and had a very childlike frustration in not being able to find the words to express himself. He ain't no rocket surgeon that's for sure :P

I heard that when Beyoncé accepted her own award, she asked Taylor Swift on stage (and Taylor obliged) so that she could do her thank you speech? And in between, Taylor even had time for a dress change so Beyoncé's and her dress matched.  :-* All's well that ends well.

The VMA winning ladies in red ... Kanye thankfully outta sight due to the bouncers doing their work this time.

You couldn't have made this up any better.

Taylor shouldn't wear red though. Looks definitely better on Beyoncé.

Beyonce is hot and West is a complete and utter tool.
Why did Salvador Dali cross the road?
Clocks.

Darrol

I find the song in Beyonce's video just flat out annoying.

Taylor was matching Beyonce when she came back out because she changed when she performed nearly right after she was interrupted.
There are many in this world that call me Darrol, feel free to be apart of that group.

This I like ;D

I like Taylor - the fact that she does indeed write her own stuff is even more impressive.  And, I'll bet she doesn't need Autotune on her vocal tracks either  ;)

I really dont have anything to say on this whole storm in a Vid Can. Except to say that it just seems like assholes and maniquins doing what they do at the usual (Marketing mans party) self appreciation awards to me.

The Autotune issue is way more interesting to me. My best mate is a producer. I always remember his words when it comes to Autotune.
"Even though it helps singers who are consistantly not exactly pitch perfect, Singers who are as close as it is possible to be pitch perfect, still prefer to use it because when you listen to the playback it actually works better on them than the lesser singers."

She's been accused of using auto tune. I wouldn't know. It's common now, I wouldn't care unless it was obvious.

These days Dave, Engineers and Producers that I know dont even bother asking (or telling) the artists. Its just a done thing.

Who's using autotune, Taylor or Beyoncé or (probably) both?

Even Robert Halford admits to using autotune live.
