I've heard Sgt. Pepper, Let it Be and Revolver over the weekend. The amount of detail you hear is amazing, even fretbuzz on the acoustics.

i'm suspicious of all the new things that are 'discovered' on re re remastered digital media. these sounds have always been there but the remix/remaster process pushes them up on an equal level with the main instruments, voices. personally i find that 'quality' of detail annoying because that is not how you would normally hear this stuff. too much technology is not always good. would you repaint a masterpiece because it has faded over the last few hundred years. i think not. ;)

I think the buzz was always there!  But don't worry, the overall effect is far from clinical. And just like the sometimes shaky timing on some tracks, it's part of the Beatles charm. Lennon was a good rhythm guitarist though, he kept the band a-chugging, that has never been that evident to me before.

I think I agree. Remastering and remixing something that was always there so it can be heard better doesn't necessarily make it better, and it changes the original intent.

I usually say no thanks to "new improved" versions of the originals. Since I haven't heard these, I really can't say one way or the other.

I'll probably buy the stereo version eventually...but only when they've been around long enough to be discounted or available at a price break on Ebay.  I'm cheap, and I don't really NEED them...but I don't have more than two or three Beatles CDs.

We have another re-issue (of sorts) at the number 1 slot over here... Vera Lynn

I will have to listen to the new remix to see if Mr Moonlight still completely sucks as a song.

That was always one of my favorites.

Digging up an old thread from the past!  I picked up a used but new Mono Box set for $145 shipped on Ebay and a brand new Stereo Box set from Ebay for $74.50.  So far I've only listened to Sgt. Pepper in Mono and it is amazing.  "She's Leaving Home" just sounds beautiful.  Saved a little cash though!

I got the mono box.  It does sound very good, and I am happiest with the mono past masters disc from the box.  It had the true mono mixes for the Yellow Sub tracks, among others.  I will polish off the stereo discs as they show up used.  I am pretty happy with the set, as far as sound and also the packaging.
Model One and Schallers?  Ish.

I was just listening to the mono Past Masters a few minutes ago.  The sound is very nice.  Was jamming on Hey Bulldog!

Hornisse

Ok, it appears the Stereo Box set was a Chinese fake!  I'm hoping to get my $$ back and will file with Ebay, PayPal and USPS for selling counterfeit items.  The Revolver CD has songs written by George Harrisun and Ringo Start.........

Nothing by Lemon and MacNartney?

Very close.  Here is a quote from a website talking about the fakes:

The fake Revolver CD has so many misspellings in the names of the Beatles - MCCarirmy, Harrisun, McCariney, Start, McCarlney (3x), Harrieon. Robert Whitaker's credit appear as "BackcoverOKoloby" which should have read "Back Cover Color by". In the fake White Album, "Wild Honey Pie" appears twice in the track listing while "The Continuing Story of Bungalow Bill" was shortened to "The Continuing Story".
