A play on words, post a certain Libyans release...

The Beatles (Beetles, indeed - typo) are a band that were always around throughout my childhood - so much of growing up was their music in my life, so much so that I took it totally for granted - I've had several LPs over the years an have meant to upgrade for years... like so much in my life... Just realised that I DO own 1 CD - No1s, which I have mislaid, as Roshina has been pestering me for it for a while - present band encores with a rather rocky version of USSR - well, present but presently dormant, again... ???

Chunky article George... a good read...

I saw  The Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show, had no idea what they were doing......................................just that i had to do it. At the time I didn't know guitar from a bass guitar. I heard  Rain and that was it, I said to myself that's it that is the sound I want to make !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sure there is JAE, Jim Lea and Gene...................... and many others, but first there is Paul. I have most of this stuff in one format or another, cripe I have bought it 5x over. If the Beatles are selling I'm buying.

Another article. This one includes George as well Giles Martin. Talk about an incredible father/son project:

Quote from: George MartinWe worked together in that little room down the hall, Room 52 here at Abbey Road, for two years. Security had to be very tight, because if anybody had gotten hold of what we were doing in advance, they would have made a fortune from it. But it was great fun and we would send each other up like mad. Giles often brought me down to earth. I might say something like, "Why don't we use the voice from such-and-such and put it in such-and-such?" And Giles would look at me rather pathetically and say, "Dad, you've got a cowbell on the vocal track!"

I just don't understand the appeal for anyone who already has their recordings. There are no Beatles recordings I want that I don't already have. I don't care how it's repackaged or remixed, I don't need more of what I already have. JMHO, YMMV etc.

again,i'm with Dave on this.

I bought Rubber Soul yesterday and it really sounds very clear, modern, great!

@ Dave: I guess buying the remasters if you already have the old CDs or records is like buying a real Gibson while you already have an Epiphone!!

nofi

i like original recordings warts and all. that's why i still prefer vinyl.

Chris P.

I like old basses, but I prefer new strings.... I think if the music really improves why stick at vinyl and not go for the better remastered ones? Oh, of course! I'm in between musicians here, conservative bunch! ;D :P

Highlander

Not having any "primary" recordings, I'd probably get the re-issues... just not at the moment... or start looking for cheapie rejects on eBay...  ;)

Are you saying that the CDs I have are just imitations of real Beatles recordings?  :P

Chris P.

Sorta.. You would wish you had the original tapes!! :D

I know where a lot of old tape is stored, in air-conditioned rooms with inert gas extinguisher systems, on shelf after shelf after shelf, with CCTV and card access and intruder alarm systems, all in a secure compound... I try not to drool too much when in the presence of sooooo much history...  8)

Having grown up in Japan and Europe I always had the original Mono recordings and took them for granted. When visiting the States I always wondered what it was that sounded different. Eventually found out and preferred my Japanese, English, German and Dutch versions. When the CD's came out everthing sounded flat. The other day I decided to check it out so I bought the Abbey Road which was originally in stereo anyhow and my daughter bought the mono box set (we live in San Francisco and Amoeba Records is quite well stocked in all areas). Well well well. For bass players you gotta pick this stuff up. You can almost tell exactly which basses Mcartney is using. Not that he uses too many different ones but the sound is supreme and really exciting again.

I will have to listen to the new remix to see if Mr Moonlight still completely sucks as a song.
Model One and Schallers?  Ish.

I have all or most of their Capitol LP's in stereo, and I think they sound better than any Beatles CD I've ever heard mono or stereo. I also have the three anthology albums on LP and those also sound great. I only buy CD's for my car.
