I tried bondo once and didn't like it.  It never hardened up enough on the wood for whatever reason.  I've not had that problem with standard wood fillers of various formuli.

That's really unusual, whatever the reason. I'd be inclined to say it was a bad batch.

I've used bondo in the bad old days with my automotive tinkering - prepped a few hobby cars for paint.  The catalyst mix is pretty forgiving, but when you're mixing just a small batch of the stuff you only need such a trace amount of catalyst that its really easy to use too little.  That's usually when the stuff never fully hardens.

I ended up using it on the BaCH, and it worked out fine.  I think I went that route just because it was more familiar to me... and it was right next to the aircraft stripper  :)

SKATE RAT

as a skateboarder, we used Bondo on cement to fill cracks leading up to rails or whatever. we had a guerrilla kit with bolt cutters ,crow bars ,a small sledge etc. sometimes you need to make stuff skate-able.

Dr B, what brands of wood filler do you tend to use? Also, where do you buy it Home Depot or a wood specialty shop? I've only used the cheap stuff that came in the squeeze tubes and always found it grainy feeling and less than desirable (but it was cheap so what was I really expecting?). I haven't used the cheap stuff on a guitar body, just other home projects.

That's good stuff. But I don't think it's significantly different from Bondo.

One might conclude this.... until watching John's video.  Then you'll realize that masonry drill is king - a tool I didn't even realize I needed until now  :)
