hi - just wondering how much tone difference there might be comparing a 5 string Thunderbird studio bass to a 4 string Thunderbird (studio or not).

Low B is nice to have but I don't want to sacrifice any Thunderbird tone for a string I don't use often.  Or maybe it makes no difference at all...  but thought i'd ask here :-)

The Stidio V is generally mightier in sound than a IV, the wider and thicker neck adds authority to every string. Compared to reg neck-thru Birds, Studios are more focused, but also don't have quite the mellow sustain in the upper registers.

If you don't mind a phat neck and how it affects the sleek neck visuals of a reg Bird, then the Studio V can do everything a IV can with more force and thud. The B string is merciless on those btw.
