My buddy's asking if this is a good deal because he's interested. I don't know much about Epi Rippers at all, but don't think they are made any more.
I have a Ripper so I don't want it, but what do you guys think of them? Would he like it?
Thanks!

I've never played one so I can't comment on that, but $450 is way high. WAY high. From what I've seen them sell for on eBay, he'll be very lucky to get $300.

that p bass/jazz pickup config. is always a minus for me. ugly and not really useful enough but i'm sure many would disagree.

There was one on Phx craigslist recently for 300 in good condition, so the price seems way out of line IMO. Dave is right about the Ebay pricing as well. 300 seems to be right for one that hasn't been abused. A lot of people here don't like to see PJ pickups on Gibson styles, but with a pickguard that size you can put just about anything else on there and none of the routing would show.

I have two of those, one prototype and  the final model as it hit the shops. That is - not only for the money - an excellent bass. It combines characteristics of all three members of the Gbson family: the ooomph of a Ripper, the mid bite of a Grabber and the glistening presence of a G 3. It is a Gripp3r. My derision for P/J combos is well known here, but here they sound just right (and phatter than on a Fender as they are both closer to the neck than they would be on either a P or a Jazz).

I have an Epi Ripper with the single humbucker I'd sell your friend for half of what that one would cost.
