Gibson REALLY should have made this.

I said it elsewhere too but I have to say it again, that's one hell of a bass! Good job. I can't wait to see pics when it's done!

THANKS, George!!! I was just blown away Friday when I stopped in to the shop to check up on it. With that gibson neck from Great dealz and the Orville T Bird pickup...AND let's not forget the KORINA...it absolutely KILLS!!!! The neck surprisingly has to be shaved down a little. VERY straight. I'll post more pics as soon as more progress comes along.

looks fantastic. Amber/nitro will look sweet on it.

I just bought a key piece for my NR 8 string. Joe had a 8 string tail piece up on the bay so I snagged that. Thanks Joe ! pics soon. I am just about ready to cut the neck joint, I just need to get a disc sander so I can get the neck joint angle right.

??? You've got my curiosity up - can you explain how/where you'll use the sander?  On the neck tenon?

The heal on the body my angle is off a bit maybe 2 degrees, a few seconds on the disc sander will take care of that, I could do it by hand but the disc sander is soooooooooooooooo much easier.

I tried a new Hagstrom 8-string and I love it. I won't use it much, so I better spend my money on something else, but it's so cool!

We reviewed it for the next issue of De Bassist. I'll post some pics as soon as it's out!

But this Bird looks much better!! I always loved the nonrev 12-string of Pete Townshend and this is the bass version! I saw Pete's baby brother play it live with The Who.

Most 8-strings are from top to bottom thin string --> fat string. In that case you can better play with a pick. I play fingerstyle only so I would love to see the strings the other way around like on some Rickenbacker 8-strings.

I had some spare time today and routed the neck pocket. I won't set the neck till I drill the tuner holes, glue the fingerboard etc.
