Guild SB-202 Fretless
« on: July 14, 2009, 11:43:14 AM »
I don't own a fretless bass (yet). But I want one.

I stumbled upon this and I'm about to hit the BIN.
I have no idea if the price is reasonable.
But it sure is a beauty...

Guild SB-202 made fretless on Ebay

Should I go for it?

If you've not got a fretless, Rob, she's not that cheap for "try-out", but she does look good...

Have you never considered having an existing instrument defretted...? My RD works a treat and the maple neck with maho inserts mean she fools people until you start playing...

Well I had a fretless years ago. But back then there was no real need for fretless bass in the band I was in at the time.
I could use one now.
And I kinda like the challenge of trying to master the skills of fretless playing (again).

The other thing is that I'm a sucker for unusual basses.
Technically the thing maybe very close to a 7ender Jazz, but this so much sexier!

The body looks like a Strat shape. NTTAWWT.

If I were to buy a fretless, I would want to buy one that was fretless from the factory, not one that's been defretted. The dots are in the wrong place. I don't think my brain could adjust.

I don't think the dots would be a problem; There' still the fretlines.
But the rosewood fretboard is a bit of a worry. Ebony would be better.

I say go for it . Those pups are the ones that are on the 302.  I had to make some from a set of F$#@% jazz pups. Im sure you could sell them  on evil bay for as much as you buy the bass for.

800 bucks is way too much for a home made starter fretless.

chris screams "buy it" to everything.

Yeah, I'm trying to fight the credit crunch by telling people to buy things:)

Buy it Rob. I agree its slightly unusual, good looking and from where I live cheap. If its a pro quality instrument regardles of who ripped the frets out then buy it.
