That is a cool tune, no doubt about it. He has his own style.

He is also supposed to do a cover of this here on the new album:

Which I guess follows tradition as he was not above covering this song from European teenybopper stars Hello (who had a hit with the Russ Ballard penned tune in Europe long before Ace put it on his first solo album):

I always missed the harmonica of the original on Ace's (still good and with a more funky guitar) version,

but that probably came because I had heard Hello's version to death on the radio several years before. To you yanks, the Hello version probably sounds weird as it didn't dent your chart back then.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to hearing his cover of FOTR. Love the Sweet! He also covered Do Ya? by the Move (later re-done by ELO) back in the 80s with pretty good results (considering the era).

That is a great version. Ace can't really sing, but I like the way he talks over the music. And you've got to hand it to him: Nobody makes a Les Paul sound as "steelish" and crisp as him.

So, "New York Groove" is a Russ Ballard tune?  No wonder I like it.

Yup, it was his first hit after he had left Argent mid-seventies. Of course he had gotten a taste of what people can do with his songs when Three Dog Night had covered Liar, a song he first played with Argent.
