Bach bird pickguards
« on: June 27, 2009, 07:10:52 AM »
Here she is all dressed up for Saturday night ! I just installed the PG this morning. I used the Bach PG hole pattern as I didn't want to put more holes in the bass right away. I had to make the "tail" that points to the Bridge a little thicker than a Gibson PG so it would cover the screw hole in the Bach Pattern. I think next time I will follow the Gibson screw pattern. The Bach PG is a bit smaller than the Gibson and the screw holes are farther into my repro PG than I would like. I can't wait to gig this bass tonight !

How did you do the Bird drawing? Screenprint or engraved?

Wow Scott, that looks great! As soon as I can afford to spend I'm going to order some pick guards. Amazing work.

Excellent work!

Just curious, are there any concerns of trademark malarky?  Or is the bird considered public domain?

Hope you don't mind if I throw my bird into your post.  I just finished the pickguard and pickup installation on mine today.  I'd hoped to get the material before last Thursday's gig, but it didn't show up until Friday.

I went with a one ply .060" black and no beveling of the edges ala the 50's Precision.

That looks fantastic. Did you use the PDF that I made?

And did any of you guys already try the push/pull pot on the Artec?
You can switch between single coil and humbucking mode without having to install an extra switch.

Basvarken, I did use your pdf template.  Thanks for sharing that with us!  ;D  I had to shift the whole guard slightly to the bass side to cover the screw hole of the tail of the original.

I saw a picture of a blue bird with a black pg somewhere on the net and thought it looked very cool.

One thing for those who are planning on putting an original pickup in their bird, you might not need to cut a hole for the pickup if you use .060" material.  I could have just made a hole for the wires and mounted the pickup to the pickguard.  There was just the right amount for clearance on my bird.

I'd like a black one with white edging aka Ripper. Bet that would look great on my black one.

At a Dutch forum we got together with a few BaCHbird owners and had a small run of new pickguards made a few months ago.

Me and another guy form that forum ordered a black one too.

I haven't installed mine yet. Be he has:
