I saw Ian McLagan & the Bump Band on Letterman tonight. Anybody else catch it?

He sang Never Say Never, the title track from his latest CD, Patty Griffin did backing vocals. I had not heard it before, and I may be wrong, but it sure sounded like it was written to his wife Kim, who was killed in an auto accident in suburban Austin about 3 years ago. Sounded heart-wrenching.

Mark Andes was not on bass, although he apparently toured with the band earlier this year. Ian's website says the new bassist is Ronnie Johnson, who also plays with James McMurtry.

That song?

He announces it as "title song from "Never say never"", but on Youtube it is referenced as "I will follow" which is the chorus.
We've taken too much for granted ... and all the time it had grown ...
From techno seeds we first planted ... evolved a mind of its own ...

That's not it. I Will Follow is on the Never Say Never CD but I don't understand why he would call it the title song.

You can hear a version here: http://www.maniacrecords.net/Soundpages/nnever.htm -- this may be the version on the CD, although the audio quality of this clip isn't so good.

Yep, that song is written for Kim. Kim used to be Keith Moon's girlfriend and Ian raised Mandy, daughter of Kim and Keith.

Last year he played in Holland and I couldn't be there unfortunately. A friend of mine brought my copy of All The Rage (best rock biog ever, imho) and Ian signed it! I'm proud of that. She talked to Ian a while and she said he's great!

I think Kim was married to Keith Moon for years, not just his girlfriend. From what I read after she died, a lot of her firends and customers really didn't know about her past, she was happy being relatively anonymous.

Chris P.

You could be right about the marriage. As Who fan I oughta know that.

She was a sweet lady, she and Mac came to many of our shows over the years. Still see Mac every now and then.
