A picture someone took from the recent LOG event (did not attend) of a short scale Decade next to Pino's decade

One off, or are there production plans?

Barklessdog

I'm not sure, but since they had it out on display, they could be trying to guage interst?

Only a guess. Certainly would be a great short scale though.

OK, I found the short-scale Decade thread.  Dan had several at the LOG event that were 110% awesome.  It was like playing a solid, road-worthy Guild Starfire with Bi-Sonics or Dark Stars.  That's the tone Dan was chasing when designing the shorty and they nailed it, in my opinion.  If they only produced short-scale Decades going forward I would not complain one bit.

The protos were not for sale (USA necks with Skyline bodies) but I think the interest level at the LOG meet was high.

My decade is like a modern Gibson to me, in that it has that warm Gibson rock sound, super high output pickups and a neck mounted pickup that can produce earth shaking lows, but certainly is no Mudbucker. Its much more versatile than any Gibson other than my RD Artist.

I still favor my Gibsons though.

I just noticed something - the decade body looks like a non-offset Bass VI:

A short-scale (Decade) would be very tempting!

Barklessdog

Your right the upper body is just slightly different

hieronymous

To be honest, I think I like the Decade better! The Bass VI is like a Jaguar/Jazzmaster with a Strat upper horn.

Somebody pleeeeeeeze tell me the Decade short scale neck would also fit a Lakland Hollowbody!!  A true, modern Starfire...

Looks like they are going to make it. They say coming soon on their home page

Though I'd love to hear a short scale HB in the works, I'd sell blood for the short scale decade.

Dan said he was targeting a specific Phil Lesh tone from certain recordings - and it does sound like he was successful.  There surely is an audience for this bass that "gets it". I'll reiterate that I could see owning both my 34" Decade and the short scale.

Thought you Boys und Girls might be interested in this little video from the Lakland Factory featuring Mr. Lakin (Courtesy of GearWire). It is mostly about the Full-Scale Decade, though at the end you do get to see and hear the Short-Scale.
