From the May 1995 issue (complete with Python reference):

i think this bridge /tailpiece setup on this bass looks fantastic , and i'm sure its got to be better than the standard EB 0  bridge.
i've been thinking about trying to do something like this to my modded EB 0 bass , i know that LINDSAY GUITARS  makes a relplacement  T-bird bridge , as apparently does SCOTT DASSON , ( although i can't find anything on the net about him )   any one got a lead on him ?
and anyone have an idea where to get a matching T-bird tailpiece ?   i can't find these anywhere either

if i cn get the parts , i'm gonna try this on my bass ,

that bass in the pic looks FANTASTIC ,

Dave W ,  i would love to get a larger scan of that pic , how do i go about it ?

thanks for any help guys ,

Hi Dexter, Scott or sometimes called GOT...............................or worse. I do have a bridge of my design for vintage Gibson Thunderbirds years '63-'69, it has extra travel for the bridge saddles. It mounts on the oringinal studs "intonation without modification" It has  been used on various other basses, Entwistle style Fenderbirds etc. I do not make the tail piece but there is a great guy here Bill (drbassman) who has small batches made up from time to time. Bill's tail piece along with my bridge is on the bass in the photo, a rather well worn and abused '67 I rescued.

hi Scott , thanks for the reply,  your replacement bridge looks fantastic , lovely looking bass too   :)
thanks for the lowdown on the tailpiece too , i'll chase that up.
do you know if anyone has successfully installed this Tbird  bridge configuration to a early sixties EB 0 , EB 3 , I  have it in mind to try it on my modded  61 EBO.
i have sent you a pm , for further info,
thanks

Are the studs are spaced the same on the Thunderbird and the 61 era EB-0? If so, then you'll also need to make sure the saddle height and string spacing will work.

godofthunder

Dave, That is something I don't know. I'll get some measurements for you soon.

Scott, I don't know the early EB-0 bar bridge stud spacing measurements either, I sold my 62 EB-0F years ago. The measurements changed in the late 60s. Uwe, eb2, Jules or others will probably have them written down.

They may be identical to the T-birds but you know with Gibson you can't take that for granted.

i would really appreciate any measurements you two guys can get for me . i will try get some measurements  off posts on my bass .
one thing i have noticed is they are not lined up , the e string side is about 5 mm  further back  :-\  ... i don't know if this is just my bass ,or all those early ones .

UWE , i'm sure you could shed some light on this ?

it may be that i would have to fill one hole ,and redrill for post to make them aligned .

Scott , could you give me the height from the top of the bass the the top of the saddle on the bridge ,when bridge is set at its lowest point ?
this is probably gonna be the critical factor if i can try this set-up. this will determine the lowest i can set the string height

thanks ,

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but the stud spacing on the bar bridge EB-0 is 3 1/4" center-to-center. And yes, it's slightly offset.

godofthunder

height at the E string is 9/16, stud spacing looks to be 3 1/16 from the inside of the studs not the centers. Hope that helps.

Sorry, my EB-0 in Junior shape is currently at the luthier!
We've taken too much for granted ... and all the time it had grown ...
From techno seeds we first planted ... evolved a mind of its own ...

Even if the stud spacing is narrower ( and I think it is ) I bet you could file the bridge to fit it is just nickel plated brass, I'd break out the file before I moved studs.
