I considered putting in an order at the time .
One of my regrets .

Likewise, I missed by minutes, one being sold in Hawaii at "retail" for $1800 plus shipping.

Attached (hopefully) are a few shots from a Factory tour in September 2005, the gentleman in the picture hand carved each Lemmy individually, so, no two are alike.
He was the last full time Luthier employed at Rickenbacker and was previously building Rickenbacker Acoustics

Listing ended. no longer available. Must have sold elsewhere.

Yikes! I remember when any red/black trim Ric would sit in stores the longest. Times have changed.

doombass

Yup, times have changed, where possibly tastes might have changed, but it could be this parameter as well: "I know it's ugly AND expensive, but at least it's rare".

Fivers are rare, red is rare, and with a white guard and TRC and chrome hardware (totally reversible) this bass would look beautiful. That's the best thing about S/BT models - no black binding so reversing the trim is easy.

What's wrong with red and black? It's the perfect bass to coordinate with a Michael Jackson jacket and just in time for Halloween if your band covers Thriller.

Contrary to what James Bond says, a good Gibson should be stirred, not shaken.

Paul Boyer

"Red" when it was a stock RIC color (1985-'98) came standard with black trim and hardware. You had to pay extra to get the chrome and white, called "reverse trim" at the time. Or you could do it yourself, but you'd have to buy or swap with someone. But on models with binding, you would have black binding too, and that's not easily "reversed."

Wasn't there an urban myth that red Ricks were cursed or something?  :o

Red/BT and Midnight Blue/BT did not sell well.
