A '92 FG fiver - not modded - a real S/5. These are becoming very hard to find.

They ought to bring back turquoise.

"Missing link" near mint Apr. 1962 transitional 4000.

1st generation features but with the revised body contours. Unusual shape pickguard. Unbelievable.

Tons of pics.

I hate to think how high that will go. Looks to be in fine shape, wonder if it plays as well as it looks.

Vincent Gallo says he played it when it was on Craigslist, and didn't like it, neck too thin and high action. Maybe it had a good setup since then, before the recent photo session. Looks like it sold for $12,000 through craigslist and now being flipped.

The pics are incredible. I saved all 114 of them.

Dave W

That doesn't surprise me. IIRC most of the early ones I've heard about had neck and action problems.

No OCD here, I see... ;)

(fully understood - the likelihood of getting close to one of these is probably quite slim, I guess)

Staring at that event horizon is a dirty job, but someone has to do it; something's going to come back out of it one day...

A new Paul Wilczynski-built 4005/8WB complete with potato headstock.

That's the only Ric body style that really, deeply appeals to me.  Very cool.

...

What's up with that? Is this some officially sanctioned copy?

He's working closely with RIC and was commissioned to build the acoustics for them and slap a real Rickenbacker TRC on the headstock, so he's become sort of like a RIC custom shop. He uses genuine RIC parts for his builds that I assume he gets from the factory, and the methods and materials RIC uses. So I wouldn't call it a copy, he will not build something that John Hall would not approve (or know of).

Dave W

Then at least it's officially sanctioned.

This is what Paul Wilczynski posted to the RRF on Apr. 2011: "here are some detailed photos of the double-bound Fireglo 4005/8 I scratchbuilt for Graham Griffiths, per his order and with permission from John Hall. Graham had sent a 4005 to me to restore, which was too far gone to do anything with (butchered body, short-scale, neck, wrong fretboard, etc.). With JH's permission, I re-used most of the hardware and wiring from the donor 4005, including the TRC and all-important jackplate with its serial number."

The tailpiece looks like a 12-string guitar part, skipping the A and B string slots.
