4003S/5 - http://www.ebay.com/itm/5-string-Rickenbacker-candy-apple-red-must-see-/171040447992?ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:US:1123

Too bad about the pickups, but that's an easy fix. And the pickguard. And the knobs...  ;D

Edit - maybe NOT so easy to find a 5 pole high gain for the treble position. Dual toasters would be good though.

Too bad about the Yngwie connection.  ;D

this is the only bass this person has ever had up for sale. everything else has been clothing. i'm just sayin'...
"life is a blur of republicans and meat"- zippy the pinhead

the mojo hobo

And is it Ruby or refin? Listed as Candy Apple Red, not a Ric color, and I'm not sure but I think Ruby was replaced with Red before the S5 was introduced.

Ha ha! I actually did do a quick search on YouTube, and the clip I found had the guy playing a Peavey or something.

I recall an article in BP or some other magazine about Barry Sparks. Whatever the story on this bass might be, he's for real. And look at what he's playing now.

RED '98 4003 in "reverse trim" (chrome/white instead of the standard RED/BT) in Japan.

Seems like there's some color bleed into the binding. Like Midnight Blue did until RIC changed the formula. Wait... could that be the reason RIC opted for BT as standard on Red and Midnight Blue in those years?

Actually it's nicer than bright white binding, the red color bleed gives it an aged look.

One of my least favorite colors, along with MapleGlo. But the white/chrome is way better than black with that "fire engine" look. OTOH, I do like black against MapleGlo...

Dave W

Ilan, you could be right about the color bleed and the choice of BT for those colors. Makes sense.

An '87 4003SPC Tuxedo, refin'ed except for the fretboard. Not listed as a Tux. Looks like a nice restoration project and could go for a low price, especially since the seller doesn't know what he has there. Currently at $510 with no reserve.
EDIT: sold for $1,029.

Good candidate for going naked, too. I think the Tuxedo looks better without paint:

I like the beat-to-hell look and, of course, the bright non-yellowed white.

Amazing cosmetic condition. What a beauty.
