4002 Mapleglo with some birdseye... and a story about which I have doubts. It was allegedly "originally given by Geddy Lee to his keyboard tech and is an EXACT replica of Lee's 4002 bass.  As such it has heavier frets and a non-standard bridge which were done at the time of purchase by Rickenbacker in Santa Monica."

The bridge is the kind that you sometimes find on Rics from the UK, probably by a UK maker. No way this was done at RIC (which isn't located in Santa Monica...) and certainly not Geddy's choice of bridge. The bad news are the drilling through the body and the ferrules. I guess it can be restored, but at a cost.

Still a nice rare bass. As always, no affiliation.

Found reference to it at the Rickenbacker Resource Forum, including a post by the author of the story...

He says he bought it from Geddy's keyboard tech but he doesn't support the current owner's claim that it's an exact replica of Geddy's bass or that the modifications were done at the factory.

That Blackstar is an awesome bass, but not $3500 worth of awesome.

Dave W

Agreed. I don't recall seeing one go near that high before, not that I've been paying close attention.

At that price I'm not surprised. It's rare but the market says it's not $4K rare.

From the UK - a '92 S model modded to look like a Chris Squire. How weird is a 7-bolt tailpiece with a slotted rib?

A 21-fretter is much rarer than a 4005.

True, and it ought to be worth more. There's just something about a 4005's looks that puts it way up there in price even though I don't think it sounds as good.

That is a very tastefull mod, looks very well done.

Very cool S. I'm surprised he didn't go ahead and put a toaster on there.

And a clear Plexi pickguard with white paint on the back... Like CS's.
