Never thought I'd see a 90s 4004C at that kind of price. Still a great looker.

Dave W sold his to me back in '03 or '04! I sold it a few years ago, some somebody else is enjoying it. The lightest Rick bass ever!

The lightest Rick bass ever!

The new-ish 4003SW are also about 1lbs. lighter than maple-bodied Rics, at ~8lbs. I'd like one day to get a maple board 4004C, but not for $3K+...

I forgot that you had sold it. You were the third owner. I bought it from member fur85 back in the Dudepit days.

Wow! I had Jeff Rath modify it to vol/vol/tone so the microswitch is gone. Did that not long after I bought it from you. Gigged it for a while. After the book was published (and it is featured in the book), I sold most of my basses, but held on to the Cheyenne for a few more years. I sold it maybe four or five years ago. Loved that bass!

I remember that you sold off most of them, didn't realize that you kept the 4004C longer.

1998 4003S/5 WHT/BT.  $5,639 BIN

From Japan. Strung EADGC so possibly had less tension on the neck than other S/5's. Original pickup included. Some stand-related discoloration but looks to be in great condition.

Holy cow. July 1967 4000 MG, mint. $18,495 BIN

Crazy rare and drop-dead gorgeous. Neck-thru and no neck pickup rout. Take my kidney and send me this one.

I have a neck through 4000 , there’s a lot to be said for two knob simplicity.
That’s simply gorgeous , Ilan.

Is it unethical to want to track down a vintage toaster and make it a 4001S?

It's fine so long as you're up front about it, especially when/if it comes to selling it.

It would be even better with a P in the neck position  :)

I wouldn't. Most 4000's were routed for a neck pickup, and those are absolutely fine to convert, preferably keeping the original pickguard and harness intact and using a reisuue guard. But please don't take a dremel to a mint 1967 bass.
