Hey Uwe, how about the Fralin Bassbuckers in the Cherry Vanilla LP bass?  I love the sound of those.  WHat do you think of them in this application?

They'd be fine too.

NICE!!!!! Too bad Gibson doesn't do anything cool like that!!!

Actually Gibson did do it. It's a work of their Custom Shop, they build two for him, no idea where the other one went, but it was on sale (without T.M. Steven's over-enthusiastic scribblings) in the same German shop too.

Sigh! I don't like the scribblings either, especially as they are huge and the wrong way round raising questions as to the author's literacy. What has probably kept me from having it removed is that I have a four string LP Standard with the same fin on nicer wood. Also, I had to promise the seller at the time I would keep the autograph (he had been aghast when I mentioned removing it and then refused to sell the bass for me for another couple of years!).

Funny thing is, it never fails to impress people who have no idea who T.M. Stevens is. They see it in my office and immediately go: "Oh, this was signed by someone famous, right? It must be very valuable ...".

It's a very stable 8 string by the way though the LP Standard's neck was never intended for such misuse. Not like that 8 string from that other Californian brand  >:( which is currently with my luthier for a fretboard removal to straighten its warped neck ...

I don't think "that other California brand" is going to be stable without a lot of reinforcement.

Is it really a standard neck Uwe? It looks like a five string neck to me.
A five string neck should be able to handle some tension.

And the headstock looks taller too. Or is it the picture?

It's the pic. They've filled the tuner holes of a reg 4 string headstock and took it from there, cramming the eight tuners on it. And it is a 4 string neck, five string LP necks are quite a bit wider.
