Gibson Black Beauty or just B.S.?

I reported it too, for copyright violations.

Its one thing if the seller was forthcoming about the fake badges and such, but since he's not even willing to acknowledge the fact that its counterfeit - somebody might end up getting suckered.  Not cool.

The bidding is over $900 and hasn't reached his reserve. Maybe it's a prankster (I hope) running up the bids? If this has been reported as a fake, then why hasn't Ebay yanked the auction?

I filed a report with Ebay also. We'll see if it's still up in the morning.

I don't know how much effort they put into researching the complaints - or for that matter, how much effort the copyright owner (in this case) would put into responding with a request to have the listing removed:

If the item you reported does not appear on its face to be infringing,
we may refer it to the intellectual property rights owner for review. If
the rights owner has a good faith belief that the item is infringing,
they may choose to send eBay a formal request to remove the listing.

Oh well - can't hurt to try.  Buyer beware.

It's one thing if it's just an uninformed seller but this douche deserves getting the auction pulled. We all should contact eBay and report the auction as a scam. In fact, I'm headed over now...

Exactly how do we do that?

On the auction page there's a link (at the bottom of the page) that says, 'report this item'. Hit that and it'll give you a few multiple choice questions and let you make a short comment. I hope someone gets through to them because some unsuspecting buyer's going to get hosed.

Rhythm N. Bliss

I tried that but it doesn't work for me unless I bought the item I'm notifying them about & give 'em my credit card info.
Strange.

I also reported it to the seller and also to Ebay. I hate this. Hope it gets removed.

I just send another report with a link to this thread.

to play devil's advocate here for a moment. you would think that someone bidding 900 plus dollars might do a little research first instead of taking the word of this  poorly written and questionable seller description. it always comes back to buyer beware. ???

uwe

My hunch is that that high bid is a shill bid. It seems to have come out of nowhere driving the price up.

I chimed in. Lets see if they pull it.

Sure looks like shill bidding.  Its hard enough to sell a real Gibson these days, let alone something with a dubious description like this.

I find Ebay's leisurely approach to stop fraud on its pages baffling. The item number is http://cgi.ebay.com/VINTAGE-GIBSON-LES-PAUL-BLACK-BEAUTY-BASS_W0QQitemZ290293695781QQcmdZViewItemQQptZGuitar?hash=item290293695781&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A4%7C65%3A10%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318

How can you have a function "report this item" and not be able to trace it?!

Kind Regards

Uwe

Yuri, thanks for the receipt confirmation, but are you actually looking
into this? The auction is still up. I don't have issues with people
selling a non-Gibson product with a Gibson headstock inlay as long as
they are clear that it is a fake and not the real thing. This guy lies:
"I'VE HAD THIS GUITAR LEFT TO ME. IT'S  A GIBSON LES PAUL BASS GUITAR. I
TOOK IT TO THE MUSIC STORE TO HAVE IT CHECKED,THEY SAID IT WAS IN  GOOD
CONDITION. THEY SAID IT WAS A LES PAUL BLACK BEAUTY. THE ONLY THING THEY
COULD SEE THAT WASN'T ORIGINAL WAS THE TUNING KEYS. THEY SAID IT WAS
FROM THE LATE 50'S OR EARLY 60'S ."

The truth is: It's not a Gibson Les Paul Bass, not even close (zero fret
and bolt-on neck give it away as a Fareast model). There never was
anything such as a Gibson Les Paul "Black Beauty" bass.  There is not a
Gibson original part on it. And the first Gibson Les Paul basses (which
looked and were structurally wholly different) stem from the late
sixties.

Kind Regards

Uwe

Dear Uwe,

Thank you for writing eBay in regard to reporting a listing.

It's always disappointing to see a member violating eBay policy. Due to
the vast number of listings on eBay, it can be difficult for us to
uncover every violation. For this reason, we rely heavily on our members
to report problematic listings.

When a listing is reported for a possible violation, we will carefully
review the listing. If we determine that a violation has taken place, we
will take appropriate action, including listing cancellation, limits on
account privileges, account suspension, forfeit of eBay fees on canceled
listings, and loss of PowerSeller status. In order to maintain the
privacy of all eBay members, we won't be able to share the details of
our investigation with you.

Please note that sometimes there's a slight delay in removing a listing
from our site. If the listing still appears on eBay after you've filed a
report, be assured that we're in the process of reviewing it. Also, if
the reported auction has ended by the time we review it, it may remain
on the site. However, appropriate action will be taken. We appreciate
your patience and your efforts in keeping eBay a safe place to trade.

If you need further assistance, please don't hesitate to reply to this
email and let us know.

Sincerely,
Sabastian D.
