Epi any good?

Nope.  It was the beginning of a dark age for Epiphone.  This was the start of the Japanese cutting costs, and as a result, quality.  There are those that still think these are pretty good, but I'm not one of them.

The differences with the '70s Crestwoods and my Holy Crap bass is that the Crestwood has a bolt-on neck, along with different electronics.  The Holy Crap is an ET-288M, which is the only neck-through that I know of from Epiphone.  It was also made at the Matsumoku plant, which is known to have pretty good quality.

It's in my avatar, but here's some better close-ups.  The only back shot I have is my promo shot.   ;D

My first decent bass in '78 was one of the maple, neck-thru Epis. It was pretty good.

Well, they've dabbled with it: I have an Epi LP prototype bass that is neck-thru, the shortlived Epi Gothic "Batman" bass was neck-thru (and with a double octave neck whose fretted part did not go deep into the body, making great upper register access, but uncomfortable lower one unless you were an orangutan) and also the new Pro TBirds are neck-thru. But yours was probably the first.

Yeah, I haven't kept completely up on the newer Epi models.  Seems only natural that they have come out with a few since mine, since they seem to be improving the quality of Epiphone to bring it closer to Gibson, without the price.

Obviously they could have done a better job marketing to orangutans.

Is that a shot?

As primates go, orangutans are as smart as chimps and gorillas, but not as eager to learn. Kind of like Epi's and Gibson's marketing department then.

Don't think so given that Dave himself has the benevolent habits of a (jungle)road-worn silverback (gorilla). On a bad hair (or fur) day.  ;D

The beard comes and goes at my whim, but either way I'm still grizzled.

As for you, I suggest you take a photo of yourself with the "Misrocoft" Magic Cyber Camera and post it here.
