Epiphone nonreverse Thunderbird question

Anyone have any thoughts about Epi nonreverse Thunderbirds? Do they have the same sound as the reverse models?

They have completely different pickups, for starters.  Instead of the usual humbuckers, the NR Epi has a P/J pickup configuration.  Some people like them, others don't.  The only one I ever played left me cold, mostly due to the feel of the neck.

I had one for a few months. I liked it overall. I liked the p-j pickups and thought that the stock ones weren't bad at all. It was a little heavy to me, but not horrible. If I had kept it I would have switched out all of the electronics & the bridge. I miss it sometimes.

I saw one I was interested in, but it was difficult to find much information about them on the internet and someone snapped it up while I was hunting. Dang it!

 I had a Fiver...........It sounded very 7ender and redefined the term "neck-dive" I found I could deal with that, it  was the close string spacing that eventually caused me to sell it.

If I remember well, my NR 4-string was really mid-ish. Not that much low end. And indeed a neck diver.

I have one, I like it though I have modded it some. The neck oddly feels funny to me on the bass side from the third fret down,  hurts my hand, never experienced anything like that with any other bass. But I keep it around cause it sounds good and looks cool.

I agree with Scott.  The neck is an odd shape.  Had I kept mine, I probably would have trimmed the neck down some.  It's a nice sounding bass, not unlike a p-bass frankly.

I think I am going to toss a Mighty Mite neck on it. I don't like the upside down tuners either.

The NR I ALMOST got (someone snatched it up before I did), was a sunburst with a pearlescent pickguard. Man, it looked cool. Wish I'd gotten it.
