Rare for the ebony board which they only did in the last production years, I've never seen a black one from that era either, most were CAR. Many years ago there was a Grabber twin of it on Ebay: also black, from 1982 and with an ebony board. Kick myself for not buying it then (at 800 bucks), it never cropped up again.  :-\

Naw, I've got a CAR 82 model with ebony board and you know what I don't do: Bid for fins. It is sinful.

If it really is in near mint condition he sure put up crappy pictures. Once again CLEAN YOUR BASS before you take pictures and dont take them in the dark!

So far this could be a great bargain, although I remember Uwe commenting once on how he thought the maple fingerboard version sounded better?

The maple board of course enhances the snappiness of the bass, but even without it is still plenty snappy for a Gibson and some people might prefer the more rounded tone of the ebony board. To me, an ebony or rosewood board will always look more valuable than a naked maple one, but that is just visuals.

That said, if you are happy with the sound and looks of your maple board G 3 there is no reason to go after this one.
