Hi guys, could any of you (i know you can) tell me what's the scale of the Epi Explorer, i thought it was 32" but have read somewhere on the net its 34". Thanks

Chris P.

I've only seen 30" and 34" Gibsons, so I guess it's 34" There are some Explorers around, so you'll have an answer soon.

And welcome! Post some pics of your bass.

The Gibson Explorer basses were 32" scale. That's according to Uwe and others who have actually measured theirs.

The Epi Explorers are 34" scale according to my 2003 Epi catalog.

Yep, 34" with a big wide neck.

The wide neck, body shape, and scale length add up to a bass that just feels huge.  I have one sitting around that I've been meaning to throw on ebay but I don't know where I'm going to get packing material enough to keep it safe so I've been holding off.

Yep my Epi is a 34" and like ZezozeceGlutz says a big wide "fitted" neck. I'm actually quite partial to it to be honest.

The 34" neck of the Epi is one of the reasons why it sounds better than the 32" eighties Gibbie Explorers. The E string on the Epi is commanding, on the Gibsons just so-so or even less.

I think Epi did a great job with the V, Explorer and the EB3. If Gibson had issued these basses I think they would have had winners. I love my epi EB3, ok so I put a 60's mudbucker in it.

Thanks for the answers, in fact i've heard the Gibbys where 32" and hoped he Epi was too. I'd like to try a 32" scale bass, that's the point.
