Bud Super bowl spot

Among the rock tunes I don't like, Freebird is probably the one I like least. It's marginally acceptable when played by a good band, but to me it's a total loser to play.

BUT - I think it reached its highest and best moment in the Budweiser spot which aired in the Super Bowl.  It fit both in tempo and message, and I thought it was an asset to the commercial.

I can see how it seems like a ho hum song to play as a bassist in a cover band. As a guitarist though, it's probably up there as one of the greatest of songs that feature a solo. The admiration has less to do with a love of southern culture and more to do with chops and great sounding Gibson guitars. I remember when I was just starting out playing bass, two guitarist friends of mine I played with were contemplating the song. One friend just threw in the towel because he simply couldn't nail the fast licks at tempo. I was the only white kid in the band so these guy's weren't worried about being associated with the Dixie rebel flag or anything, they just wanted to jam on an all time classic banger. Seems like those days are long gone.

Is that the one with the AI-generated baby bald eagle and the mustang who become friends as an allegory to the country becoming less divided? I thought that was kind of cute (but why didn't they use a donkey and an elephant?), if only very vaguely picking up on current issues. And the Lynyrd Skynyrd number (never a bad song, but overplayed) did no harm.

Anybody remember this - at 01:18? 

I remember when I first heard the song mid-70s, the guitar frenzy of it was something. And those ironic drum rolls at 09:20!

Bud was better before they were bought out by Inbev. They closed the plant in Merrimack NH. It was sad to see the jobs go along with the Clydesdales. They also ruin every other beer they contract brew like Pabst and Rolling Rock. Commercial was cute but not cute enough to get me to drink anything brewed from Bud or Inbev.

Seriously, if you just want to quench your thirst on a hot day, don't feel like drinking water or a soda, and don't want to be tipsy in the baking noon sun, an ice cold can of Bud is perfectly fine.

It's a lot like Asian beers brewed from rice: They make sense in the countries where they are from. When I'm eating Chinese, I would never dream of ordering a German beer to go with it.

My local Chinese restaurant always stocked Tsingtao beer, which was nice but not that unusual. I gather it is a bit of a happy byproduct of your mob setting up a strategic coaling port in  Qingdao and getting the natives to brew you a familiar ale. Or something!
