Fingerhakeln has existed since the dawn of man (which in Bavaria took place a little later than everywhere else, it is still very much work in progress there). In the bad old days, it was the rural poor man's version of dueling, designed to even resolve disputes.

Given current US division, you should perhaps take it up too for just that? You could wear helmets and athletic supporters with it and have scantily clad girls dancing at the side of the field, so it feels a bit more familiar, no? 😈

I played fingerhakeln in high school in the 1960s.  Been around a very long time.  Hurts, too.

I'm blessed with never having to root for any sports team - whether passive or active, sports drive my boredom to tears.

Edith - a raging soccer fan, her daughter even works in the media department of a professional team - sometimes drags me to a game and I periodically succumb because that is what you do in a good marriage. I then sit there, totally detached from the proceedings, and she will eventually go: "You really don't care, do you?" 😂
