When I was a seven year old boy a song on the radio caught my ear. It had a weird sounding guitar that I just loved. Back then I had no idea this riff was played on a Fender VI bass. The artist was Hank the Knife & The Jets. And Hank played guitar on the Fender VI.

Years later when I moved to Arnhem to study at the Arts academy I frequently saw Hank (Henk in real life) in the city. He still played with his band and he was also a comic book artist.

Today Henk passed away.

Rest in Peace Hank the Knife / Henk Bruysten.
Thank you for the music of my youth and for the funny comic strips you made.

In the old vid the low E string is out of its saddle groove and it drives me nuts  >:(

Haha, relax Ilan. They were only miming.  ;D

And if they're miming my OCD suddenly shuts off?

I hadn't heard of him but he sure got his own sound from the Bass VI. Very nice.

Don't be so friggin' German about it, Ilan. It is part of the lovable Dutch national psyche to execute any action with a certain amount of sloppiness, yet at the same time feisty aplomb and a sprinkling of grandeur.

We're really jealous of that.

You've just described the Frank Farian acts Boney M and Milli Vanilli, right?

What was sloopy about either Boney M or Milli Vanilli? They were perfectly engineered for the chosen markets.

But Frank Farian's approach was very deutsches Ingenieurwesen, I'll give you that. Dutch producer-manufactured music sounded always a bit more playful to me.

Mine is the Polish variant of OCD and it's unshakeable.

Basvarken

I was thinking mainly about the performance of the 'artists' on stage miming along to the meticulously crafted music of Herr Farian.

And to be fair; Bobby Farell was half Dutch. So I guess Uwe has a point after all😂

Weighty words, phew, I'll ask again in 123 years, ok?  8)

I think it's time to enter Austrian singer Falco and Dutch producers Bolland & Bolland.
