If you ever want one in pre-butchered original condition, just as John Fitzgerald Gibson intended, you know where to find me.

My EB-0 (@1964 model) was butchered when I got it.  An extra Dimarzio was in place close to the bridge, and there was a swimming pool size hole for a missing mudbucker. IIRC Dave was kind enough to sell me a real mudbucker to fill the hole. I turned the two controls into Vol 1 and Vol 2, as there is no need for a tone knob with the pickups on this bass.  Reducing the treble would be superfluous.

I can't seem to add an image from my computer - the only available icon now links to a URL, not a local file.  Any help?

One thing I'd appreciate is an explanation (if possible) of the #3 and #4 positions of the rotary switch, 1
and 2 are evident. On mine, 3 and 4 do not seem much different and both are rather unremarkable in terms of tone.
What I'd really like to be able to do is blend both of the pickups together in addition to just soloing either of them.

Varitone on a slot head should be 1 neck, 2 bridge, 3 neck chocked plus bridge and 4 is neck choked.
Try rolling the neck pickup volume down to 9 or 8.5 in position 3 with the bridge volume at 10. I think Bob Daisley said that's where he likes to set his. My feeling is these basses are either all or nothing when it comes to the pickups.
Contrary to what James Bond says, a good Gibson should be stirred, not shaken.

Just note that you need to make a small modification to the wiring to be able to individually adjust the pickup volumes.
In their original state the volume pots are wired so that the wiper ends (mid lug) are connected towards the input jack and the pickups on one end. The result is that both volume pots act as master volumes when both pickups are used (position 3). That's a typical Gibson wiring since Les Pauls are wired the same. My 2005 Les Paul Standard Bass used to be wired like that also so I switched places of the wires so that I can roll off some of the bridge pickup volume when using both.
