Yeah, that's one cool mother! Wish Epiphone could make the T-bird with one pup, the II. That's a beauty. Don't know why, but it's the one pup that gets got my attention. But I don't wanna sound too selective: The three pup Firebird got me drooling!

That one is really a nice guitar, super cool banjo tuners and the paint work is really sharp, very nice guitar!

Nobody needs more than one pickup and two knobs anyway.

Uwe's edit: Do I detect double entendres here?

I love simple one P90 guitars.

Years and years ago I bought a reissue Longhorn. The Copperburst. I had many reasons to buy one. When I first saw one in a book, I fell in love, some of my favourite bassists used them (Rinus Gerritsen of Golden Earring, Frank Kraaijeveld of 'Dutch Stones' the Bintangs, Jack Bruce, Entwistle, the lot), but I really fell in love seeing Tom Petty play one in that Traveling Wilburys video.

I bought it new with all possible discounts from the Dutch distributor for 200 euros (I guess around 200 dollars) and I love it. I played many, many shows with it and I recorded with it. It looks very good and sixties, it's very easy to play, it's a real poser's bass (I'm 15% technique and 85% faking and posing through gigs) and it's easy to do all those poses haha! But main fact was our live engineer loved it. Our lead guitarist sounded quite muddy and the Dano cuts through. A side benefit was the attention of mainly older man (*) asking me after the gig about the bass: 'Is it an oldie' - 'I used to habve one' - 'I'm a big fan of Rinus...' etc.
(*) Nowadays fortunately enough young girls want to borrow it, because of Maneskin haha.

One bad thing: intonation: tune it, check the tuning at the twelfth fret, take the strings of, take the bridge of, move the piece of rosewood a bit, put the bridge back on, mount the strings, tune it, check the intonation at the twelfth fret, take the strings of, take the bridge of, move the piece of rosewood a bit, put the bridge back on aigain, mount the strings, tune it.... so the intonation of my Longhorn is always 'good enough'.

Just curious, did you tape your nipples playing it?

And to bring the subject to its logical and ultimate conclusion according to which all threads end in Deep Purple, Roger Glover played both a single- and a double-neck Hondo Longhorn in the early 80ies when still with Rainbow. He thought it recorded very well, but didn't use it live for lack of ultimate oomph.

You can hear the 8-string here:

Danos have a unique charm , the designer cut every conceivable corner he could to make them cheaper.

These , by design , were the best student priced instruments they could build (by New Jersey housewives with little to no woodworking experience)

I don’t understand quite how it happened , but I fell for them. They weigh next to nothing , but they’re tough as nails. They do sound good , and really are fun to play.

I love them.

I never gave them much thought until I had to repair my friend's DC59 (Jimmy Page style?) Danelectro. Yes they are cheap, but they are built using another era's version of cheap, frugal design principles. I found it fascinating to work on, and all the design quirks gave it a unique tone. Sort of dirty and unfocused with a rusty, wiry edge to the tone.

There's Roger with the Hondo Longhorn (good shot at 03:43), I had forgotten about this particular vid, he likely also used it to record the track as well as he was in love with the Hondo's recorded sound at the time:

Dave will no doubt agree that Italian bassists are special.

There’s a long tradition of topless girls playing Danos.

Let's get this back on track, I only had eyes for that lovely mock-Non-Rev at 00:38 - and what a pleasantly boppin' performance that was!

Cool group. Who's going with me to the Ladybird reunion tour? Should be a knee slapping good time!  ;D
Contrary to what James Bond says, a good Gibson should be stirred, not shaken.
