joybuzzer - one word, singular
« on: December 23, 2023, 12:34:59 PM »
Below are the liner notes from my original music project from 1992. It's crazy to think it's been more than 30 years since we recorded this.

I'll post all of the tracks with lyrics over the next few days.

--------------------------------------

joybuzzer
one word, singular

speak for yourself
what i need
kicking down the walls
grandpa
driving me away
donna reed
i forget everything
once was when
the way of things
ann boleyn

produced by mark warren and joybuzzer

engineered by jim saurman and mark warren

all music written, arranged, and performed by joybuzzer except donna reed which was written by carl cleaver and joybuzzer.  special thanks to jim saurman, the cast and crew, our respective extended gene pools, and the members of the academy that made this award possible...

joybuzzer is:

brad lowe vocals, guitar
bill malik bass guitar, vocals
mike mccarthy drums, vocals
mark warren most excellent wall o’ guitars

speak for yourself - warren/lowe

he only sells dimestore novelties, all kinds of crap a to z
not happy with the prices he’s getting, time for major bloodletting
half the day spent in apologies, kill the dog just to rid the fleas
feeling stronger, feeling quite prophetic, you’re not a prophet, you’re pathetic

don’t waste your breath preaching to the choir
don’t try to tempt with heaven or threaten with hellfire
freeze up with fear or surrender to desire
you just speak for yourself

dreams of servitude without condition, little tyrant in your own little world
one man’s vision coming to fruition, your machinations are so absurd
household rules to be obeyed without question, spare the rod and spoil the child
he only sells dimestore novelties, all kinds of crap a to z
not happy with the prices he’s getting, time for major bloodletting
half the day spent in apologies, kill the dog just to rid the fleas
feeling stronger, feeling quite prophetic, you’re not a prophet, you’re pathetic

don’t waste your breath preaching to the choir
don’t try to tempt with heaven or threaten with hellfire
freeze up with fear or surrender to desire
you just speak for yourself

dreams of servitude without condition, little tyrant in your own little world
one man’s vision coming to fruition, your machinations are so absurd
household rules to be obeyed without question, spare the rod and spoil the child
as for the mrs, she’s in the kitchen, she won’t be coming out for quite a while

what i need – lowe

look me over, don’t look over me
tell me something, do you know what i need

i see you sometimes when i sleep and you’re looking straight back at me
i feel a weight from deep inside  pulling me down
i feel so strange when i’m around you, i can’t keep my eyes away
i wonder if you’ll ever see me hiding away

have a mind minding you next to me wanna be puzzle you muzzle me struggle in front of me
have a word have a clue punching bag w sample you over me bottle gotta better me

i get so tired of following you when it seems i’ll never catch you up
it hurts to see you with someone else, holding him close...

It's nicely quirky! Is it an insult if I say that it reminds me of early Romantics with a touch of Talking Heads thrown in?
We've taken too much for granted ... and all the time it had grown ...
From techno seeds we first planted ... evolved a mind of its own ...

No, not at all. We were definitely of that era. Thanks!

Four down, six to go.

kicking down the walls - malik/lowe/warren

the walls are falling ‘cause i’m kicking them, doors keep closing in my face
there’s people talking behind my back as i hide behind my cellophane soul
the walls are falling ‘cause i’m kicking them, i’m feeling so out of place
running a race i  don’t understand, i feel like i’m out of control

you know, sometimes i feel i should learn to be a little bit more like  everybody else
and then i think, hell, maybe they can learn to be a little bit more like me
and i wonder if i have anything to offer them anyway
and do they have what i need

you know sometimes running around this same sad, lonely town
i think i should just get up and get on out of here, i don’t know
but then maybe i’d be running away from everything that makes me what i am
maybe i’ll just stick around a little bit longer

grandpa - lowe

sitting by the fire in my grandpa’s rocker
wondering what it must have been like to be him
no tv’s, no cd’s, only talking boxes
gray factory days and nights with gin

i never knew my grandpa
he died when i was young
i never knew my grandpa

traveled to this country, first generation
nothing here for him but a new beginning
living through two world wars must’ve been something
poverty couldn’t quench the fire within
